John Jones, Project Manager for Seating at Slick Seating
Systems Ltd in Redditch England head office commented about
the project: "The stands were constructed from 147km
of steel tubing, weighing over 500t. The height at the rear
of the stands were over 31m, making them the biggest temporary
stands ever built.
The design of the stands, along with the hospitality tents,
meant that the public had access to view the Rugby World Cup
Final, but would never enter the confines of the existing
stadium itself ensuring the safety capacities were adhered
to.
Construction began at the end of May and was finished in
time for the “test event”, The Bledisloe Cup (NZ v AUS) in
early August".
